Join acclaimed dancer Meagan A. Woods and her ensemble of dancers and musicians for an unforgettable evening that fuses the visual arts with the art of dance. Taking place simultaneously in three different galleries of the museum, Woods and ensemble will “dance” with the artworks, embodying the forms and rhythms of paintings and sculptures. In addition, Mumta Hathiramani, a visual artist, will sketch Woods’s motions without knowing from what artwork they derive. Her art will interpret Woods’s danced response of the original piece. At the end of the evening, the visual piece by Hathiramani will be aligned with the work embodied by Woods to see how movement has connected them. The evening will also include a performance in Herbert Ferber’s installation, Sculpture to Create an Environment, with its snaking black sculptures that enter and exit the walls. Meagan A. Woods is a member of University Danceworks, the touring student dance company of the Mason Gross School of the Arts. This program is offered in conjunction with the Zimmerli’s First Wednesdays: Art After Hours series.
