The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Catherine Yi-yu Cho Woo.
Dr. Catherine Yi-yu Cho Woo卓以玉 is an accomplished poet, composer, painter, teacher, and writer. On this appearance at the museum, she will discuss the fine arts of Chinese painting and poetry. She is the first Asian American woman to serve on the National Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts has honored her with an appointment as an Ambassador for the Arts. Dr. Woo's paintings have been shown in galleries and museums throughout Asia and the United States, including the United Nations, the Sackler Museum at Harvard University, and the National Gallery in Taipei, Taiwan. She has authored nine books in both Chinese and English on Chinese literature, art, and culture. Her collections of poems have been well received internationally, and one, "Tian Tian Tian Lan," 天天天藍 was made into a popular song that became a number one hit in Taiwan. In this lecture Dr. Woo will present her poetry and paintings in Chinese as well as in English.
The lecture will be held in the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Extension building at 328 J Street on Saturday, March 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Following the lecture, refreshments will be served at the reception held in the Chuang Garden at 404 Third Avenue. Admission is $2 and free for members and children under 12.
