Porchlight Music Theatre celebrates Stephen Sondheim’s 80th birthday and the opening of the new Mayne Stage and Act One Cafe with its 5th Annual “Chicago Sings” event, Chicago Sings Sondheim, at the Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse Ave. at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010. This one-night-only celebration of Sondheim’s music will feature performances by over 20 musical theater stars, directed Rob Lindley and musical direction by Doug Peck.
Cast members include multiple Jeff Award winners, Broadway legends and rising stars such as Ross Lehman, Johanna McKenzie Miller, and Jessie Mueller. Performances will feature a duet from Rebecca Finnegan and Michael Lindner (Jeff Award winners from Porchlight’s Sweeney Todd) and Barbara Robertson singing “Send in The Clowns” from A Little Night Music. Also featured are the legendary E. Faye Butler singing "Rose's Turn" from Gypsy and a Dixie Chicks-esque version of "The Ballad of Booth" from Assasins by cabaret trio “Foiled Again”.
