Employing the techniques of 18th century woodcut print makers, the creator of manga Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro, Shigeru Misaki, recreated the classic 53 Stations of the Tokaido Road Ukiyo-e series incorporating characters from his Kitaro manga.
Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro was first published in 1959 and ran for ten years as one of the most popular comics in Japan. It has been adapted numerous times to television and a movie version was released in April 2007. Shigeru Misaki is regarded as on of he fathers of manga and is a highly influential artist. Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro features many traditional Yokai or monsters from Japanese folk tales.
