The Black Maria Festival is an Academy Award qualifying festival of independent and experimental film and video works of varying lengths. The collection consists of 50 of the finest works selected in a juried competition from approximately 1000 international entries. The program at Monmouth features about 2 hours of shorter pieces across genres, including documentary, animation, short narrative, and experimental works.
Black Maria (pronouned Mariah) is a festival of topical and often sophisticated subject matter. It is not rated but is not for younger children. Works are sometimes challenging.
All are Welcome and invited to attend. Attendence records will be made available for classes.
