Exhibit: August 6 - 28 , 2010
Reception: Friday, August 13, 6-8 pm
La Peña presents “Tender Dissonance” an art exhibit by David de Lara. It will be on display at La Peña’s gallery space in Downtown Austin from August 6th thru 28th. The reception is Friday, August 13th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and also includes a musical performance from Nelson Saga.
David de Lara returns to La Peña’s gallery with a collection of paintings and photo based artwork. For the past decade he has created portraits and figurative work of women. The women in his paintings and drawings are usually not based on anyone in particular and are used like dolls to symbolize the human condition. The images of the women he photographs are often distorted digitally or by hand to blur the line between the reality and surrealism of life.
David de Lara lives and works in Austin, Texas. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1979 and was raised in the rural countryside of South Texas. In 2003 he received a BFA in Fine Arts from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and relocated to Austin shortly thereafter. His work has been exhibited throughout Texas in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Corpus Christi and also nationally in Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle.
