Alan Ayckbourn's Ten Times Table is an hilariously funny insight into the internal wrangling of life on a committee. John Cockle, William Brunt and The Massacre of the Pendon Twelve are colourful figments of the playwright's imagination that inspire the characters in the play to organise a pageant.
The setting is a series of committee meetings of these local worthies planning the re-enactment of that malicious massacre, 200 years ago, of a group of agricultural agitators. For Eric, the left-wing comprehensive teacher, it becomes a commemorative rally, with himself as rabble-rousing martyr.
The result? Organised chaos.
