After almost a year of collecting inspiration from their travels on tour, living in Detroit, and visiting the land of big skies (Texas), Teletextile makes New York City their new home base - and already others are taking notice. Teletextile has been asked to perform at The Stone’s April concert series, spotlighting violinists and women musicians.
John Zorn, the composer who was recently awarded a MacArthur genius grant, opened the Stone to provide a venue for the most creative new music in New York. Each month he selects a different musician to curate the series, and for April he asked Grammy award winning violinist Alicia Svigals who in turn has invited Teletextile to showcase music from their upcoming release Care Package due out this summer. Expect to hear details about their CD release parties in Boston and New York.
Teletextile is comprised of Pamela Martinez, Teletextile’s vocalist and multi-instrumentalis and keyboardist and electro-nerd Brian Hamilton. Encompassing an extensive array of instrumental talent - ranging from cello, violin, and harp to mallet percussion – the tasteful knack for electronic inflections atop Pamela’s strong control over the piano keys are the prominent compliments to her haunting vocals. On their debut album, Care Package (to be released June 2007), Teletextile presents ten tracks that emote a sense of isolation and compositionally depict a warm invitation of vulnerability through such bare, lyrical honesty.
Teletextile performs Tuesday night April 3 at 10 p.m. with guests on cello, guitar and electronics. ($10) www.thestonenyc.com, www.teletextile.com, http://www.myspace.com/teletextile
