Tejas Palladian Art Show by Avijit Mukherjee, Shibani Sengupta, Atish Mukherjee, Rajib Bhattacharya & Shambhu Saha. Dhiren Sasmal, now a household name, is loved for his universally appealing subject matter, taken from the simplest images of real life, be it a bird, a child, or a fairy-tale figure. He renders these in an ethereal style all his own, using layers of acrylic paint worked over with fine pen and ink detailing. He believes that the greatest pleasure is derived from the simplest things of life!. Atish Mukherjee, a qualified artist and animator by profession, is greatly influenced by Indian folk-art. His abstract and semi-abstract figures done in tempera and pen and ink, are a manifestation of his belief that love and nature are two sides of the same coin, both a direct path to our Creator. Shibani Sengupta's "Aranyak" series are a visual delight, as she uses oil paint and spatula to produce the effect of both colour and light as seen in the depths of forests and foliage. Avijit Mukherjee, a self-taught artist, creates highly imaginative works based on the theme of the emergence of human nature, and the corruption of urban living. Rajib Bhattacharya's urban landscapes are a symbol of the conflict in society in an age of rapid transformation. Using gorgeous colours and forceful strokes, he manages to convey both the beauty of new urban space and the gloom of urban darkness. Shambhu Saha uses meticulously tiny strokes of the palette knife to produce vibrant landscapes and water-scapes reminiscent of the beautiful canvasses of the French Impressionists. All six artists follow their own hearts when painting and this small collection represents their belief that art must be absolutely original in order to move the viewer.
