Tea with Kelly Corrigan, Author of The Middle Place May 31, 2008

Community members are invited to meet Bay Area author Kelly Corrigan, at a free afternoon Tea at the Hayward Public Library, 835 C Street, downtown Hayward. Corrigan will be speaking about her bestselling new memoir, The Middle Place (Voice/Hyperion). Linda Slater, president of the American Association of University Women Hayward/Castro Valley branch, a co-sponsor of the event, noted The Middle Place is a book I would recommend to everyone it is inspirational in the most meaningful way. The Middle Place asks all of us to take a look at who we were and who we are becoming, who we belong to and who belongs to us, and the myriad ways every family is made and remade through crisis and triumph. By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, blunt and eloquent, The Middle Place marks the debut of a powerful new voice. We are delighted to have the opportunity to introduce our community to this remarkable woman, who writes eloquently not only about her courageous battle with breast cancer, but also about her charismatic father and close-knit family, commented Lisa Rosenblum, director of the Hayward Public Library. Corrigans book will be on sale at the event, and Corrigan will be available to sign copies. Multiple copies of the book are available for check-out at the Hayward Public Library, and the book will be the topic of discussion at the Librarys Autobiography Book Group in June check the Librarys website for details at library.hayward-ca.gov/.

Kelly Corrigan is a newspaper columnist and is a contributor to magazines including Good Housekeeping and Glamour. Her article The Doubters Dilemma appears in the May issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, currently on newsstands. Corrigan launched CircusofCancer.org, a website that teaches friends and family of cancer patients how to love someone through treatment. Kelly Corrigan lives in Piedmont with her husband and their two daughters.
