Southwest Shakespeare Company Presents: Tartuffe By: Moliere Religious zealot or diabolical hypocrite? In the character of Tartuffe, Moliere confronts those that would use religion as a front for treachery. The wealthy Orgon is convinced that Tartuffe is a genuine man of religion and takes him into his life, but soon the fraud has gained access to everything he has of worth. This hysterical farce caused a scandal when it was first produced under the reign of Louis XIV and still amuses today, three and half centuries later. Presented in the Richard Wilber version, considered a masterpiece of verse translation. Location: Farnsworth Studio Theater.
