Philadelphia based Tania Isaac Dance presents a unique range and blend of modern and Caribbean dance esthetics, reflective of director Tania Isaac’s West Indian heritage. TID’s work reflects Isaac’s experience in straddling West Indian and ‘western’ cultures, her love of poetry and athletic, physical abandon. One of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2006, the magazine states, “fusing choreography with personal documentary and social commentary, [Isaac’s] stage picture is intelligent, voluptuous, witty, and political, all in the same breath.” Isaac presents her latest work Standpipe, a two year commissioning project between Dance Place and the National Performance Network, named for a central reliable source of water, implying sustenance and the continuation of life. This image forms the backdrop for addressing realities and redefinitions of third world perceptions. A co-presentation with Reston Center Stage and the National Performance Network Creation Fund. Supported in part by Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program of Mid Atlantic Arts. Supported in part by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. Supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
