“If 1920’s-style pearls, red velvet curtains, and suave crooners keep your boat afloat, “TANGO LA MELODIA is all yours.”
-Hiya Swanhuyser, SF Weekly
TANGO LA MELODIA is a live concert and multimedia performance, transporting audiences to a dream-like past where the worlds of Tango, Gypsy Jazz, silent film, and the speakeasy atmosphere of the Roaring 20’s blend seamlessly together. Following the success of this summer’s sold-out run at San Francisco’s EXIT Theatre, TANGO LA MELODIA returns for four nights to enchant audiences with its seductive spell.
From the moment audiences step into the theater, they are carried away by the sounds of accordion, guitar, upright bass, and the mesmerizing vocals of this fictional traveling band. Complete with Tango and cabaret dancers, sultry atmosphere, and a short silent film accompanied by an antique pump organ, this performance immerses audiences in a one-of-a-kind multimedia experience. Below the surface of the live concert, there is a story that is both humorous and tragic, revealing the tarnish and rust of this romanticized, idealized past with themes of love, betrayal, beauty, and fate.
TANGO LA MELODIA showcases original songs, film, and choreography from collaborators Brent Bishop and Paige. Combining a vintage aesthetic, avant-garde production, and explosive creative energy, these emerging artists invite audiences once again into the red velvet world of their imagination.
Brent Bishop is a filmmaker, musician, and performance artist. His first major multimedia performance, "Melodia," played to sold-out audiences in May 2004. Paige is a singer/songwriter currently in production on the followup to her successful debut cd. Her music has won over audiences at such venues as Cafe Du Nord, the Great American Music Hall, Slims, and the Hotel Cafe, Los Angeles.
