Tandem Reading Series: Haunted Kids! – Vampires aren’t the only things kids have to put up with these days! There are zombies, and elves and life’s unexpected knocks. Award-winning children’s author Chris Grabenstein reads from “The Smoky Corridor,” about a haunted school, joined by Louella San Juan and Elizabeth Catalano, both reading from works in progress about a haunted New York and about a girl who thinks she’s Nancy Drew. A panel discussion to follow on what’s so special about being haunted and why do publishers like it so much?

Chris Grabenstein – Chris Grabenstein did improvisational comedy (with Bruce Willis) in New York before James Patterson hired him at the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency.
 His Anthony Award-winning debut TILT A WHIRL (A John Ceepak mystery) was followed by MAD MOUSE, WHACK A MOLE, HELL HOLE and MIND SCRAMBLER and ROLLING THUNDER.
Chris has also written two thrillers: SLAY RIDE and HELL FOR THE HOLIDAYS.
His "rip-roaring" Middle Grades ghost story THE CROSSROADS was published by Random House received a starred review in Booklist and won both the Anthony and Agatha awards as Best Children's/YA Mystery. The book has been optioned by a Hollywood producer to be made into a movie. The sequel, THE HANGING HILL, also won the Agatha Award. The third book in the Haunted Mystery series, published in 2010, is THE SMOKY CORRIDOR.
 Also out in 2010: a John Ceepak short story in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, "The Demon In The Dunes," a short story in DEATH'S EXCELLENT VACATION, edited by Charlaine Harris and Toni L.P. Kellner, plus the world premiere of CURIOSITY CAT (the play being rehearsed in THE HANGING HILL) at the Children's Theatre of Knoxville.
