Up-and-coming Canadian mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford has become a favorite at the Met, appearing in Das Rheingold and Nixon in China, as well Ariadne auf Naxos, The Magic Flute, and The Queen of Spades. She helps to open the Met season in Gaetano Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, the story of the ill-fated Queen Anne driven insane by her unfaithful husband, King Henry VIII. Mumford performs the role of Smeton, the Queen’s page. This Met premiere production by David McVicar boasts one of opera’s greatest mad scenes. Conducted by Marco Armiliato, Anna Bolena also stars Anna Netrebko, Ekaterina Gubanova, and Ildar Abdrazakov.
