The Iraq conflict has been called the "women's war" in the media, but the women who have been deployed since its beginning have largely been unheard and unseen. Author Laura Browder and photographer Sascha Pflaeging collaborated to tell—and show—the stories of women soldiers. The two will discuss and sign When Janey Comes Marching Home at noon on June 2 at the Library of Virginia.
The book juxtaposes 48 photographs by Pflaeging with oral histories collected by Browder to provide a dramatic portrait of women at war. Women from all branches of the military share their stories here—stories that are by turns moving, comic, thought-provoking, and profound.
Copies of When Janey Comes Marching Home are available for purchase through the Virginia Shop, located on the first floor of the Library of Virginia. The Library of Virginia is located at 800 East Broad Street. There is free parking for this event in the Library's underground deck, which is accessible from either Eighth or Ninth streets.
