A documentary by Lisa Merton & Alan Dater
Wangari Maathai - educator, Nobel Peace Prize winner, leader of the Green Belt Movement - changed history in Kenya. She began by teaching rural women to plant trees. They worked against poverty, deforestation, ignorance, global economic interests, and government repression, until the movement became a national political force that helped to bring down Kenya's 24-year dictatorship. The film has won numerous awards, including the Audience Award at Hot Docs, Montreal, 2008.
