Art of Time Ensemble
presents
TAKE THIS WALTZ
the waltz explored throughout the last 150 years
The acclaimed Art of Time Ensemble presents Take This Waltz, a program that explores the waltz throughout the last 150 years. This concert evening features some of Canada’s finest classical and jazz musicians as well as celebrated singer Steven Page - formerly of the Barenaked Ladies - who recently released a solo album, Page One, and who previously released the album A Singer Must Die with the Art of Time Ensemble. Take This Waltz runs February 4-5 at Harbourfront Centre’s Enwave Theatre.
Beginning with an arrangement of Johann Strauss’ Emperor Waltz and ending with Maurice Ravel’s La Valse. the program explores waltzes by composers Shostakovich, Korngold, Schnittke and Liszt, as well as Waltz for Debby by jazz legend Bill Evans and songs by Tom Waits, Burt Bacharach, Leonard Cohen and Steven Page.
Now in its twelfth season, the Art of Time Ensemble is the creation of renowned classical pianist and Artistic Director Andrew Burashko. Not content to rehash basic classical repertoire, Burashko and Art of Time Ensemble have become known for their daring interaction with the Toronto cultural scene. Committed to finding new ways of blending classical music with other musical genres as well as other art forms, each Art of Time program is uniquely different in theme and content.
