The Voices of Africa Choral and Percussion Ensemble is an internationally acclaimed all women’s cultural group that presents a completely unique and soul stirring experience in a cappella musical vocals and traditional West African Percussion rhythms. As African descendant women who dare to sing and play drums, The “Voices of Africa” ensemble performs music that spans the African Diaspora and brings powerful messages about African culture and tradition. In this lecture/demonstration, the audience will be given a performance, along with a lecture about history, technique, and style of playing each instrument used in the performance. In addition, the audience will be asked to participate in playing the instruments.
