Smashing the Ceiling: Concert and Lecture
Magdalen Hsu-Li is an internationally acclaimed bi, feminist, Asian American, musican, visual artist, speaker, and cultural activist who is redefining the female musician and smashing the ceiling in the American music industry. In this one hour interactive musical lecture, Magdalen explores the search for "cultural identity" through her personal story as an out, asian american, woman growing up the rural south, overcoming obstacles such as racism, prejudice, stereotyping, homophobia, bi-phobia within the LBGT community, filial piety, and a severe disability (Tourette's Syndrome). Her music and storytelling assist audience members in finding ways to explore and re-define their own identities while unlocking the secret to discovering one's "dharma" or soul's purpose.
