Take Back the Web is a conference about using the Internet as a campaigning tool, and about users reclaiming control of the Web.
The conference will be held on 28 October 2006 at The Friends Meeting House in Brighton. The day will begin at 12pm and run until 4pm with an hour lunch. The conference is free, although we are asking for small donations to cover our running costs. Lunch will be a vegan "pot luck" so please bring something to share.
Take Back the Web is a new venture run by campaigners along non-hierarchical and not-for-profit principles. We want to create a free forum for discussion, skills and knowledge sharing so that the benefits of using the Internet are available to all groups, no matter what their budget is. Practically speaking, this entails empowering grassroots, local organisations with the useful Internet skills.
The conference will be run with two types of seminars: 1) Skills workshops on creating and using blogs, RSS, wikis and podcasting; 2) Open sessions to discuss and debate the use of Web 2.0 for activism. You will be free to suggest topics you want to discuss.
Space is limited to 40 participants so register now!
