Women in Calgary have been marching to Take Back the Night since 1982. The Take Back the Night march symbolizes our commitment to stopping the epidemic of violence perpetrated against women in our families, workplaces, and communities. The march hopes to create change through community capacity building, empowerment, and hopes to inspire a new generation to rise-up and stop the cycle of violence.
The march will be held Saturday September 13, 2008. The rally starts at 7:30pm at Central Memorial Park (4 Steeet and 12 Avenue SW) and the march will follow at 8pm.
The march is inclusive to all women, transgendered persons, and children. Supportive men and boys over 12 are invited to attend the rally and march but are asked to respect the symbolism of women and children marching unescorted. During the march, males can be supportive by lining the parade route in a show of solidarity.
