This first meetup in Toronto will welcome both newcomers to, and veterans of, the Systems Sciences community. The event will be a casual, with a featured speaker to encourage rich conversations.
6:00 p.m.: Meet and mingle
6:30 p.m.: Allenna Leonard, "What are the Systems Sciences?"
8:00 p.m.: Adjourn to dinner at nearby restaurants, according to interests
Allenna Leonard is the president of the International Society for the Systems Sciences, 2009-2010. See http://en.wikipedia.o... . She is leading preparations for the ISSS annual meeting to be held in Waterloo, July 18-23, 2010.
For convenience, we will be convening at the Duke of York Pub, 39 Prince Arthur Avenue, just steps northeast from the St. George subway station (Bedford Street exit). This meetup will be a no-host event (i.e. you're welcome to pay for your own drinks).
Participants will be asked to contribute $1 (i.e. a loonie) so that (a) we can keep count of how many people to attend, and (b) to minimally defray the cost of planning this and future meetups.
