Sybarite5 Next Music at Noon: The Logan Series Performer February 2, 2012

January 10, 2012 – Sybarite5, a chamber quintet that has performed a repertoire ranging from Mozart to Radiohead for audiences as varied as his Holiness the Dalai Lama and visitors to New York City’s Museum of Sex, will perform at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Sybarite5’s appearance, one of three spring semester performances in Music at Noon: The Logan Series, will begin at noon in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building. Admission is free, and reserved parking will be available in the Reed lot.
The first string quintet admitted to the Aspen Advanced Quartet Studies program, Sybarite5 now serves as the Aspen Music Festival’s Alumni Ensemble. In October, it was named the winner of the 2011 Concert Artists Guild Competition, and also awarded the competition’s Sylvia Ann Hewlett Adventurous Artist Prize.

In addition to its Radiohead Remixed Project, Sybarite5’s ongoing programs include The Shuffle Effect, in which it replaces a traditional set list with selections taken from an iPod; New Music Idol, in which the ensemble assists student composers by performing their pieces for a panel of judges; and The Dido Project, which recasts the mythical opera “Dido and Aeneas” on modern day Wall Street. In 2013, Sybarite5 will premiere the first concerto for string quintet and orchestra written by young American composer Dan Visconti.

Founded at Penn State Behrend by Warren philanthropist and arts advocate Kay Logan, the series’ unique musical outreach has been honored with an Adventurous Programming Award by Chamber Music America and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. The series receives major support from the Kay Logan Trust and additional funding from the Penn State Behrend Student Activity Fee, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts and the Erie Arts Endowment of ArtsErie. The additional spring performers will be Silver Roots on Wednesday, Feb. 29, and the Walden Chamber Players on Thursday, March 29.
