Swing Dance Party March 11, 2011

DANCE PARTY:

8:30 - 12:00 Swing Dance Party including:

* 8:40 free Swing Basics lesson,
* hors d'oeuvres, cookies, goodies, refreshments,
* and DJ'd dancing on a chandelier-lit huge wood ballroom floor.

No partner and no dance experience needed. Lots of friendly people to dance with of all levels and ages.

WORKSHOP:

7:00 - 8:30 Shim Sham Shimmy
Prepay: $23 Drop-In: $28 With roots in tap, this jazz line dance (starts solo then ends with a partner), was done by everyone (even band members) at The Savoy Ballroom in Harlem (the birthplace of swing/lindy hop), usually at the beginning and end of each night. It quickly became, and still is, a must-know in the swing dance scene; done at our most of our events and worldwide. It even inspired songs such as swing classic "Stompin' At The Savoy", popularized by Benny Goodman. Shim Sham jazz steps are also commonly incorporated by swing and lindy hop dancers for improvisation and styling with a partner.
