SWEPT AWAY ( Travolti da un insolito destino nell'azzurro mare d'agosto), 116 minutes (1974)
by Lina Wertmuller
A rich woman, Rafaela, rents a yacht with some friends to sail the Mediterranean one summer. One of the hired sailors, Gennarino, is a communist who disagrees with everything that they stand for. One day, Rafaela wakes up late in the afternoon and asks to be taken to the island where everyone had gone earlier. Gennarino sets up a boat but during the trip, but they wind up adrift and marooned in the middle of nowhere. Alone on a deserted island, the power roles are reversed and the two are forced to into each other’s previous position. Presented as part of the Lina Wertmuller retrospective.
