The name “Bixby” is well known throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties for the family’s impact on the growth and development of California. In the 19th century, three of the Bixbys married four Hathaway sisters—all daughters of a Congregational Minister from Maine; a fifth sister helped raise their children but never married. Explore the lives of these remarkable women and their experiences on the California frontier, while enjoying a dessert buffet at Rancho Los Cerritos on Tuesday, February 8, at 2 p.m. Reservations are required no later than February 4; for additional information and reservations, please contact Rancho Los Cerritos at (562) 570-1755.
The performance will take place in the Rancho’s sun porch. While sipping your coffee, “listen in” as the sisters talk amongst themselves about their families, their experiences settling in California in the mid-late 19th century, and their household responsibilities. This living history performance will bring tears to your eyes—and have you smiling as well—as the women share the trials and tribulations of living on an isolated sheep ranch, moving to the sleepy town of Los Angeles, and helping build the new community of Long Beach.
