hi this is my first year going does any one know of a motel near by and will they have birds and reptiles thanks
also looking for a flying squirrel
For an animal lover as myself, I Love going to this place. Its so much fun. Dates for the Lucasville "Swap" Flea Market are always the 2nd weekend of April 4/11 - 4/12, 1st weekend of June 6/6 - 6/7, 2nd weekend in October 10/10 - 10/11 2009.
They have all types of birds and some reptiles. They used to have a lot of reptiles until the Fair put a stronger guidelines about them. A vendor was selling poisonous snakes and one got loose.
they have it ALL there. I bought a baby black bear there last June 2008. He is GROWING. I got to meet the bears mom and dad at there house too. We also got a wallaby! There is something for everyone. If you can't find it, ask, someone will of seen what u were loking for and tell u where to find it.
does any body know how much it is to rent a spot for a day at trade days
I am planning on going to the swap and courious of the critters people may be bring ?
I've lived in the area all my life. The closest hotels are in Rosemount and Portsmouth or Piketon; all of which is no more than ten minutes away. The hotels will be booked though so call ahead. I think set up fee is $20. You nvever know what you will find. Last year we saw alligators, unusual spiders, etc.
I am going! can't wait! Have wanted to go for years. Taking my pups too. Shih tzu. Love animals.
I really enjoy going to the swap days....great fun and lots to see. This will be my 5th year, we have purchased birds, dog supplies, fancy hamsters all young and trainable. Also fresh produce, guns, hunting and fishing supplies, even skateboard for my kid....everyone enjoy and stay safe while traveling.........cyaa there
Do they allow you to camp on the grounds on Friday night before the swap opens on Saturday?
Some one told me that they got a rabbit from a swap meet and it brought home with it a sickness and killed all his rabbits. He said it wasn't something he would do again. Has anyone else had this happen?
What time does this swap open? Someone told me that they start to set up the night before and that if you wanted to avoid the crowds you could go then to look at the animals. Do you know if they have a good selection at this time. Or would it be better to wait for Sat?
what is the times of this event ?
this will be my first time going, my husband went last year and mentioned it to me when he came home from work this evening and had me to get on the net, to see when it was. so i found out when it was but i do not know what time it starts or what time it ends so can some one tell me. thanks
I am a little annoyed here, I think this is the worst run event I have ever come across. I heard it through the grape vine that the Southern Ohio Poultry Association was having their annual swap meet just a few days ago. I have been searching all over the web for more info in regards to it. I have found their web site, but it only has a mailing address to contact no number no email address. And since I have gotten this info too late to write them this is worthless to me. I finally found their number but it rang off the hook, and their web site said due to too many phone calls they wont be giving out their number any more. Well that is pretty silly, I understand it being too much time spent on the phones. But at least put a frequently asked question area so people can get a better idea of what to expect. Like loads of people are asking when the dates are, so they put that down, but how about what it cost to put up a booth, can you camp on site on Friday night, do they have any wheel chair or cart rentals? Things like that so people can get a better idea of what it is going to be like going there and what they will need while there. Sorry to go off like this, but this seems to me to be really silly of them to go ahead and set up a thing like this and then not have any way for people to get answers. I have called the visitors bureau for the area, and they sent me to the guy who runs the fair ground, or rather is on the fair ground committee They said they didn't know that I would have to contact the group that is sponsoring it. So basically I just got the run around and no one knows what is going on. OK I am done ranting, I feel so much better. LOL
You can camp out overnight if you set up. A lot of people do to watch their stuff. You can go Friday evening and look but it's best to wait till early Saturday. Some people don't set everything out till then
Thanks for letting me know. Another question for you, so I take it if you don't have anything to sell they wont let you stay overnight on the grounds? If all the hotels are booked will they just let you park your car on the grounds?
Swap days is a lot of fun. You can literally find anything you need. I have lived in the area all my life. If you don't mind dealing with rednecks.....it's the place to be this weekend. I'm not sure about them letting you park your car on the grounds. They also have horses and horse supplies there.
I plan on going in June. I missed last weekend. It will be my first visit. My sister told me about it and she said you could find so many different types of animals there I'm beginning to picture some sort of medieval fair?
I was interested in exotic chickens as pets but I'm also wondering if they want to keep it a 'popular secret' due to the illegal trade of exotic animals?
There have been many bad reports of Amish puppy mills and I would think twice about buying an animal that didn't have a clean bill of health. Remember, this is a 'fly by night' group where many vendors would be hard to track down if a sick animal died. Buyer Beware. I look forward to the next visit to answer a few of my fears.
We have been to this several times, we bought a pot bellied pig almost 6 years ago and he is healthy and wonderful! We have gotten chickens and turkeys from here and never had any problems with any of our purchases.
ALL PARKING IS $5.oo PER CAR AND SET up TO SELL STARTS @ $30.00 to $ 45.00 depending on were the spot is located , keep in mine all spots are reserved from year to year , call ahead before you drive a long way thinking you can setup , there are a few vendors that may have a empty lot but you will pay as much as $100.00 per lot
The best way to get a spot is to send your money way ahead...most spots that you can get as a first timer are $30 each...send payment to Southern Ohio Poultry Association, 312 O'Connor Rd., Lucasville, OH 45648. Also, you can go on Friday and walk thru the trucks all waiting in line and see if anyone has a spot they wont be using. If the SOPA finds out a vendor is selling a spot for more than they pay for it, they say they will kick that vendor out, but I know a lot of them still do it. I only charge what I paid for my spots. its too good of a show for me to risk it. We are down by the silos so we usually have to wear boots and bring carpet remnants and or straw to try to survive the mud.
My husband and I go to Trade Days in Lucasville regularly and would like to know if anyone has a phone number so we can contact someone there. We are trying to locate a particular vendor and any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
