Presentation Summary:
The presentation introduces the fundamentals of intellectual property, with a focus on patents. The presentation will cover the entire patent life cycle including: patent rights, patent use, patent requirements, patent costs, patent timelines, patent types, and the patent procurement process. Varun will also discuss the basics of trademarks and copyrights.
Speaker:
Varun Shah is a patent attorney at Hickman Palermo Truong & Becker. He graduated with a bachelors in Computer Science, with Upper Division Honors,from Arizona State University. He then earned a Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of Arizona. Varun focuses on all aspects of intellectual property procurement including: identifying patentable inventions, generating invention summaries for prior art searches, developing patent protection strategy for software products, drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the computer hardware and software engineering fields, prosecuting international applications during the preliminary examination phase, instructing foreign associates through national phase prosecution, drafting copyright infringement opinions, and registering software code with the U.S. Copyright Office. Varun is admitted to the State Bar of California & registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office as an attorney.
