ANGEL STREET, a classic mystery thriller written by Patrick Hamilton, is Lemon Bay Playhouse’s next stage production, running March 4-22. First produced on the London stage under the title of GASLIGHT, it is the story of sinister Mr. Manningham, who is mentally torturing his wife in an attempt to drive her insane. He is being pursued by police inspector Rough, who is seeking evidence to convict him of an unsolved murder. Set in Victorian times, the dimming gaslight provides a clue to help bring the criminal to justice.
Ralph Barnes directs the Lemon Bay Playhouse production of ANGEL STREET. Cast members are all veterans to the LBP stage. Last seen in Night Watch, Robert La Salle and Lee Lawler are playing the Manninghams, and Ann Hanushek is playing the housekeeper. Nick Nichols, seen recently in THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, is Inspector Rough. Amanda Gworek, who played Ann in ALL MY SONS, rounds out the cast as the young maid, Nancy.
Leo G. Carroll and Vincent Price starred in the 1941 stage production at the John Golden Theater on Broadway for a total of 1295 performances. The expanded 1944 movie version of GASLIGHT included Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotton, and a teenage Angela Lansbury, who played the saucy young maid, Nancy.
