Visit Susan Hall at her beautiful studio in Point Reyes Station, the heart of the natural environment that inspires her work. It is a chance for conversation, to see recent work, and view works in progress. Paintings, ceramics, signed prints, and cards will be available for purchase.
Images of rich, dreamy and sometimes eerie settings of the West Marin landscapes are central to Hall's work. Her paintings may include a lone fisherman, a wandering deer under a moonlight night, or wave breaking with small barn off in the horizon. The work is rendered with rich color and a surreal, lyrical, and mystic tone that speak of larger themes than a simple landscape. Hall says, "I see in landscape painting the reflection of the ever-changing canopy of the universe as well as the intimate recesses of the human psyche and soul."
Hall's life brought her from Point Reyes to New York and back home again for the past twenty years. Ms. Hall has exhibited her work widely and is in the permanent collections of such museums as the Whitney Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Brooklyn Museum and the Kunst Museum in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Hall has had shows at Bay Area galleries including Gallery Paule Anglim, Nancy Hoffman Gallery, Erickson Gallery, and The College of Marin.
Hall has received fellowships from the Adolph and Esther Gottleib Foundation, two National Endowment for the Arts awards, and grants from the Pollak Krasner Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts.
