The impetus for Susan Gofstein's exhibition 'Hunting and Gathering' began surprisingly with the remodeling of her bathroom. Susan saved sections of her wood wall paneling papered with a French toile de jouy pattern of pastoral living. The pattern provided a background to play with two and three-dimensional space and explore the fine boundary between the blissful and yet banal activities of the figures. Gofstein experimented with collage, painting, and drawing on the unique and challenging surface to create mysterious new narrative fragments. The results are intriguing and otherworldly.
