The night of music and dance dedicated to the sun also features a performance by Qualia Dance Theater, a solo performance by Guy Blakeslee of the Entrance Band, visual art by Astral Eyes, musical sculpture by Lazer, projections by The Mystery Machine, and tunes by DJ Don Bolles.
Sunrise (Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans), 1927
Director F.W. Murnau's emotional odyssey stars George O'Brien and Janet Gaynor as a country couple whose marriage is threatened when O'Brien falls prey to cosmopolitan temptress Margaret Livingston's feminine wiles. Imbued with an intoxicating ambiance in style and substance, the lyrical silent film which is, by turns, quixotic, blissful, sensual and terrifying, chalked up Academy Awards for Best Actress (Gaynor) and Best Cinematography.
Cabeza de Vaca Orchestra, the visionary project of Jimi Cabeza de Vaca, features the voice of Nora Keyes and a continuously rotating ensemble of other Los Angeles artists. The orchestra is known for performing live scores for silent films at The Cinefamily/Silent Movie Theater and the Downtown Independent Theater, including Pandora's Box, Faust, and King of Kings.
