The Sunnyside-Hillhurst Housing Action Initiative (aka Sunnyside Redemption Front) is hosting a beer night on Tuesday November 21 at 7:30pm Kensington Pub (207 10A St NW). Since many of us do not know each other well, this is an opportunity to meet and get to know each other in an informal setting.
The goal of this group is to build a tight knit community that cooperates, shares, celebrates diversity, celebrates life, and at the same time holds people accountable. A primary concern right now is affordable housing. Our group in the next provincial election can hold a town hall meeting in our community and invite all the party candidates to discuss issues like affordable housing in our community. We can also identify land that could be used for affordable housing and lobby our community to start building mixed income housing (with at least 20% of the units affordable, aka inclusionary zoning). Or any other ideas are more than welcome.
Hope to see you out. If you are planning on attending please RSVP (communitiesforall@hotmail.com) so I can save tables. Please pass this email to anyone who may be interested in attending. If beer and a smokey bar are not your thing, please suggest a different activity/location and we can switch for next time.
David Wilson
