KAGE in association with Alzheimer’s Australia presents the story of Peggy, a women experiencing early onset dementia. Told from the perspective of three generations, Sundowner explores the impact dementia has on the family of a loved one losing themselves to the grips of the illness. If a loved one is losing their memory, what role can we play in helping them maintain it?
Drawing on the experiences of Australian families, Sundowner melds dance, drama and original composition to represent the frustrations and experiences of individuals and families dealing with dementia. A story of love, grief and sorrow, Sundowner tackles a potentially bleak subject in an entertaining and uplifting way.
"It's the strangest thing. No longer being able to tell what is the past and what is the present…”
Dementia is often viewed as a taboo subject and one which few playwrights or directors are willing to tackle. The result of two years of research, community engagement and creative development, Sundowner presents challenging subject matter in an accessible and engaging way that has had a powerful impact on audiences. Sundowner shines a spotlight on a relatively unrecognised illness that affects millions of people around the world.
