New Music Vancouver presents:
Suna no onna
featuring: Robin Streb and Andre Cormier.
Suna no onna is a cello and viola duo committed to the performance of new and experimental music. The name Sunna no onna comes from the title of a novel by Japanese author Kobo Abe that was later made into a film by director Hiroshi Teshigahara and is loosely translated as "Woman in the Dunes".
The ensemble will perform a new work by composer Andre Cormier titled "Piling Sand Piling Stone II". The piece uses a six-minute tape loop to create layers of sound. It also features an extended microtonal tuning system.
This performance is part of the Canadian Music Centre's "New Music in New Places" series. www.musiccentre.ca
