For Sufi followers, music is a way of getting closer to God. The mystical sounds of Sufism, which communicate messages of peace, tolerance, and love, are reverently captured in this documentary by Simon Broughton and William Dalrymple.

Sufi Soul, the Mystic Music of Islam featuresmany acclaimed performers, including Abida Parveen, The Galata Mevlevi Ensemble, Kudsi Erguner, Mercan Dede, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Youssou N’Dour. It traces the shared roots of Christianity and Islam in the Middle East and explores Sufism as a peaceful and pluralistic religion with a worldwide following. Dr. Hussein Rashid, an academic, activist, and lecturer devoted to expanding interfaith understanding, will lead a post-screening discussion of Sufi musical history.Presented in association with the Aga Khan Council for the Western United States.
