Immortalized as a wise and benevolent presence in L. Frank Baum's book 'The Wizard of Oz' and the classic film it inspired, the scarecrow has been a familiar figure on the rural landscape for centuries. Traditionally, a farmer's cast off clothing became attire for scarecrows, which patiently stood watch over fields of plenty. On view during the Norman Rockwell Museum's busy fall foliage season, these full-scale figures will welcome thousands of visitors to the museum's bucolic thirty-six acre site. Prizes will be awarded for the Most Rockwellian, Most Inventive, Most Classic, Best in Show and Viewer's Choice.
