Brian and Andy were members of the Arcata "dirty rock" band The Crums along with Andrew Edwards, Ben Beaver, and Max Brotman. One day, at a big green house, Colin opened up the show for the Crums. It went over so well he was asked to join in with The Crums for a few numbers. Sometime later, Andrew Edwards left Arcata to travel through China, and The Crums broke up after a Bummerfest performance. Colin called Andy up one day and asked him to join a newly formed band which became MooM. MooM consisted of Colin Begell, Andy Powell, Ryan Brodie, and HardcoreTodd. Brian replaced Hardcore Todd on drums at the Alibi one night. Ever since that night, Brian became a member of MooM. MooM became Rasper. Ryan left Rasper. Colin, Brian and Andy decided to keep playing music together and thus Strix Vega was born
