Following on from our successful event in 2012, we have decided to forge ahead with the planning for Armed Forces Day 2013 which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 29th June 2013.
The event will commence with a parade from the Town Centre to Agnew Park followed by the main event in Agnew Park from 12 noon until 4pm.
The chosen theme for 2013 is “Communications” and the exhibits will reflect this theme, we have invited The Royal Signals Corps to attend to showcase a selection of their hi-tech communications systems.
Locally we will invite The Coastguard, Stranraer Inshore Lifeboat and Galloway Mountain Rescue to plan a mock exercise to highlight civilian communications at work.
A request will be sent to the MOD for the attendance and possible stop off by Recue 177 from HMS Gannett.
Once again we will have live music organised by Callum Black with Children's entertainment and a fun fair.
Local Organisations will be invited to attend and The Scottish Highland Dancers and The Blue Bombshells will of course be invited to attend to perform.
Armed Forces Day falls between the Armed Forces Day Flag Raising on Monday 24th June and The Armed Forces Day Flag Lowering on Monday 1st July 2013, both these events are organised jointly between the RBLS Stranraer and District Branch and Dumfries and Galloway Council and everyone is encouraged to attend these events.
Stranraer Armed Forces Day is the only event of its kind in Dumfries and Galloway and we have therefore inviting RBLS Members from across the Region to attend and help to support the event. Although the organizing committee is small in numbers we have shown that we have the will and determination to continue to organize and deliver a quality event to the public.
