Kicks off 10th Anniversary Season!

DENVER, – Stories on Stage presents “Creative Solutions” as part of their Always on Sunday series featuring Kathleen Brady, Frank Corrado, Larry Paulsen and Philip Pleasants. Show times are 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 29 in the Stage Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Single tickets are $25; tickets for groups of 10 or more are $20 per person and LoDough (scholarship) tickets are also available. Answering the question “How should I spend the rest of my life?” keeps most of us yearning, churning, running around and wondering. Our silly and serious evening of “Creative Solutions” may not help with any solid answers, but it certainly can’t hurt.

The Valetudinarian by Joshua Ferris, read by Kathleen Brady

Joshua Ferris is an American author best known for his debut 2007 novel “Then We Came to the End.”Then We Came to the End was a finalist for the National Book Award, and received the 2007PEN/Hemingway Award. His new novel “The Unnamed” was published in January 2010.

Kathleen Brady: This award winning actress has performed at the Denver Center Theater Company for 23 seasons. Some of her favorite credits include Trip to Bountiful, Bernice/Butterfly, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and A Christmas Carol.

One Dog Year by Kevin Moffett, read by Philip Pleasants

Kevin Moffett has received the Nelson Algren Award, the Pushcart Prize, and a literature fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts. He won the National Magazine Award in 2010 for “Further Interpretations of Real-Life Events.” He teaches in the graduate creative writing program at Cal State University, San Bernardino.
Philip Pleasants has performed in many productions for the Denver Center Theatre Company and with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival for 20 seasons. Mr. Pleasants was seen in the Broadway and National Touring production of “Amadeus” and the off-Broadway production of “Treason.” His television and film credits include “Another World,” “All My Children,” “Judge Horton” and the “Scottsboro Boys.”

A Piece of Pie by Damon Runyon, read by Frank Corrado

Alfred Damon Runyon was a newspaperman and writer. He was best known for his short stories celebrating the world of Broadway in New York City that grew out of the Prohibition era. He spun humorous tales of gamblers, hustlers, actors, and gangsters, choosing colorful monikers such as "Nathan Detroit” and "Harry the Horse.” The musical “Guys and Dolls” was based on two Runyon stories, "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure."

Frank Corrado has performed locally in “Molly Sweeney,” and “Oedipus Rex” for the Denver Center Theatre Company He has also performed at Seattle Repertory Theatre, Berkeley Rep, A Contemporary Theatre, to name a few.

The Football Story by E.A. Durand, read by Larry Paulsen

E.A. Durand’s “The Football Story” was included in “Football’s Best Short Stories,” a collection oftwenty-one stories on football by famous writers.

Larry Paulsen credits include the Broadway production of “The Kentucky Cycle,” the off-Broadway production of “Julius Caesar” (New York Shakespeare Festival) and the Denver Center TheatreCompany’s productions of “You Can’t Take It With You” and “Pride and Prejudice.”

“The Valetudinarian” was originally published in The New Yorker.

Celebrating their 10th Season, Stories on Stage combines literature with theater to bring short stories to life and features some of America's best actors.

Stories on Stage was founded in 2000 by Norma Moore. Ms. Moore retired at the end of last season and, in June, Stories on Stage announced Denver Center Associate Artistic Director Anthony Powell would fill the roll of Artistic Director. During eighteen seasons with the DCTC, Mr. Powell directed over twenty-five main stage productions.
