Shed Light Events is very excited to bring singer, Sam Brown to the events schedule. Sam will be sharing her vast performance experience. Helping singers to understand the mind and skill set required to sing and express oneself through voice. She will advise singers on how to deliver an authentic performance and connect with the audience. There will be an opportunity for a limited number of singers to perform for Sam and gain her professional and artistic feedback.
"I will be talking about the psychological aspects of singing and expressing oneself through the voice, and performance. We will look into how to connect with the audience and their collective energy. Well, in fact, I can waffle on for hours about all things voice!" Sam Brown
BIOGRAPHY:
Singer and multi instrumentalist, Sam Brown, grew up in a highly musical family. Her father, Joe Brown, is an influential guitarist with three top ten hits and her mother was a top session and backing vocalist. In her teens Sam appeared as a vocalist in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Her first ‘musical’ pay cheque was as a backing singer on the Small Faces album ‘In the Shade’.
Sam started writing and developing her song writing skills as a young teenager. Her independent spirit lead her to move to London at the tender age of 17 where she started earning money as a session singer on demos and advertisements. These jobs lead to her to working with artists such as Hipsway and Spandau Ballet amongst others. In 1986 she was signed to A&M Records releasing the single ‘Stop!’ and an album by the same name. The album sold over two and a half million copies worldwide. Consequently, she released another two albums with the label. Due to creative differences between herself and the label, Sam decided to buy back the masters of her 3rd album and release it under her own label Pod Music. She has subsequently made another three albums.
Sam carried on her solo career as well as collaborating and performing with other artists, such as Pink Floyd, David Gilmore, Nick Cave, George Harrison, The Firm, Dave Rotheray and then as a regular singer for Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. With many years of over two hundred gigs per annum in a wide range of venues from clubs to The Albert Hall, Sam is well placed to be discussing all things singing and performance.
