After all, just over 12 months earlier the band had lost long time member, the Brisbane born and raised, Mary Hansen, due to a tragic cycling accident. Not so. Margarine Eclipse is as joyous an album as Stereolab have ever released and rivals the classic Emperor Tomato Ketchup for it's funkiness and out and out dance sensibility. That such a tragic event could inspire such joy is a wonderful irony. Founded by Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier in 1991, some 13 years, 15 albums and 39 singles later, Stereolab continue to deliver records of quality and substance, always flying in the face of fashion and always without the hint of commercial concern.
