Stephen Wing, an Atlanta-based poet and essayist, will read from his first novel, Free Ralph! An Evolutionary Fable. It's an unusual story with an unusual origin - in a hospital room at Emory in the midst of a rare life-threatening reaction to chemotherapy. The story that emerged is a comic tale about a young circus chimpanzee, his relatives back in Africa, and a lost hunter they enlist to rescue their baby from the circus, sparking a quantum leap in the evolution of both species. The novel's eco-friendly theme reflects Wing's passion for the environment; he works as Recycling Coordinator at New Leaf Distributing Co., and his environmentalist essays appear regularly in local publications.
