Seattle, WA – Live Nation welcomes Steel Pulse to The Showbox on Friday, February 27, 2007 at 9:00 p.m.
The UK's most highly regarded roots reggae outfit, Steel Pulse originally formed at Handsworth Wood Boys School, Birmingham, and comprised David Hinds (lead vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (lead guitar, vocals) and Ronnie McQueen (bass). Steel Pulse may have explored various styles of music since they started out in 1975, but when it comes to the message, the UK's Grammy winning reggae band has remained close to their roots. The group has continued their commitment to fighting injustice, educating the masses, and promoting positive messages through spiritually uplifting music.
Steel Pulse has been perfecting their original and distinctly high-energy style of reggae music for a quarter of a century. As the only British reggae group to win a Grammy Award (for Babylon the Bandit in 1985), their international success continues to inspire audiences of both new and long-dedicated fans. It has also earned them subsequent Grammy nominations for Victims, Rastafari Centennial, Rage & Fury and, most recently, for Living Legacy in 2000.
Their music is an extension of their roots. Always rebels with a cause, the vanguard tends to be where they are. Spike Lee met the group at a fundraising function and soon selected ‘Can’t Stand The Heat,’ written by Steel Pulse founder and lead vocalist David Hinds, for his film Do The Right Thing.
Steel Pulse’s powerful performances have recently been hailed as “an occasion to contemplate political art’s effectiveness…" by The New York Times.
Tickets are $25.00 and go on sale Friday, January 19 at 10:00 a.m. at all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com or hob.com or charge by phone (206) 628-0888. All tickets subject to applicable service charges and fees. Dates and times subject to change without notice.
