STAGEStheatre presents Steel Magnolia’s for Mothers’ Day

Fullerton CA – STAGEStheatre is proud to present Robert Harling’s first play, Steel Magnolias; performing May 7 – June 12, 2010. Harling was an aspiring actor, when the death of his younger sister inspired him to write this play that still remains his most famous work. The play premiered in New York City, and Harling went on to adapt the screenplay for the film version of the play starring Sally Field and Julia Roberts. Steel Magnolias is unique with its all female cast focusing on the strength of the characters relationships through good times and bad.

Cast Includes: Jamie Costin as Truvy, Kim Baesel as Annelle, Marje’ Piazza as Clairee, Jennifer Ann Marks as Shelby, Patti Cumby as M’Lynn, and Cynthia Ryanen as Ouiser.

Set in the local beauty shop in a small town in Louisiana, owner Truvy, and her unusual new assistant Annelle give out haircuts, manicures and plenty of free advice to their regulars. There’s a room full of love and laughter as the women in the salon get ready for the biggest wedding in years – that of M’Lynn’s daughter, Shelby. As the play progresses we learn Shelby is a diabetic, and against doctors advice, risks pregnancy and ultimately dies. The sudden realization of mortality affects the others, and brings them closer together, than ever before.

STAGEStheatre is proud to welcome back veteran director Amanda DeMaio, who will also be directing “It’s a Wonderful Life (A Live Radio Play)” adapted by Joe Landry for STAGEStheatre this holiday season as well. Her past directing credits include: Neil Simon’s The Dinner Party, Book Of Days, What Corbin Knew, It’s Only A Play, You Can’t Take it With You, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Much Ado About Nothing, and her now published play, Unrelenting Relaxation.
