During the typically hot days of summer, we often think about relaxing by a pool, having a picnic, or indulging ourselves with an ice cream treat. Why shouldn't dogs enjoy some of this summer fun? Steel City Greyhounds thinks that they should, so the organization is hosting its first Summer Fun Day at Lucky Paws Pet Resort, a boarding facility and resort just outside Cranberry Township. The event will also help those in need, as it is also a food drive for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
For a $10 donation, dogs will be able to participate in a variety of activities, including a doggie ice cream social, nail trimming, and a dip in the 2,800-square-foot, dog-only pool at Lucky Paws Pet Resort. For the greyhounds specifically, there will be games and contests. Greyhounds available for adoption through Steel City Greyhounds will attend the event as well, hoping to find forever homes. Lucky Paws Pet Resort features fenced-in, off-leash play areas that include mountains, tunnels, and play equipment; a large pavilion with picnic tables and park benches; double-gated entry; and, of course, the huge pool for dogs.
The day will include treats for the dog owners, too, including a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, and a picnic lunch. Owners will be able to purchase comfortable, fashionable clothing for their dogs, as well.
If attendees donate a non-perishable item to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, admission to the event will be reduced to $5. The GPCFB requests that people not donate glass items.
All monetary proceeds from this event will go directly to Steel City Greyhounds. Steel City Greyhounds, a participant in the Paws Across the Pond program, is partners with SOS Galgos, a greyhound rescue organization based in Barcelona, Spain. Steel City wants to help SOS Galgos via the Summer Fun Day. Attendees who donate a gently used martingale collar to SOS Galgos will be entered to win a gift card to a local restaurant.
In order to participate in the Summer Fun Day, all owners must provide proof of vaccinations at check in. Dogs must be current on Rabies, Distemper, and Bordatella. Pets must also be free of fleas, ticks, worms, and other parasites.
