Staying Power: Exploring Black British Identity Through Photography

Join photographer Ed Otchere in this special opportunity to explore black British documentary photography and learn more about how to use a camera more creatively and effectively during this three-day intensive course. On day one you will examine documentary photographs relating to black British culture in the V&A's print room, followed by a talk by renowned photographer Charlie Philips. The afternoon will be spent learning the techniques of street photography. On day two you will spend the morning at the Black Cultural Archives where you will explore their extensive collection. The afternoon will be spent in Brixton where you will be encouraged to capture creatively what you consider to be examples of black British identity today. On day three you will participate in a constructive review of all participants' work and get advice on how to use Photoshop to modify and tweak your images to best highlight the subject's qualities.
