Stanford/SJSU Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble Spring Concert May 5, 2009

The Stanford and San Jose State University Afro-Latin Jazz Ensembles perform at the Campbell Recital Hall on May 5 at 7:30 PM as part of Stanford's Spring Music Events. This is a rare chance to hear two of the Bay Area's best Afro-Latin Jazz Ensembles in a single performance context. Both bands will perform individually, and they will also perform simultaneously for the first time.

It's an exciting blend of rhythm, harmony and melody that is designed for dancing as well as listening, should the spirit move you. Both groups plays music from the entire spectrum of Afro-Latin music and jazz, including son-montuno, rumba, comparsa, songo, salsa, boleros, jazz and funk.

San Jose State University's Latin Jazz Ensemble is directed by Wayne Wallace. Known as the "doctor", he is widely accredited with being one the major contributors to the Bay Area jazz/latin scene with his innovative compositions, arrangements and educational acumen.

The Stanford University Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble is directed by long-time Bay Area pianist/educator Murray Low. The group has recently received a major Arts Grant from the University for the upcoming year.
