We kick off our 2013 jazz programme with an unforgettable night in the company of Stan Tracey - the celebrated pianist and 'Godfather of British Jazz'.
Performing at Band on the Wall with his quartet featuring the great tenor saxophonist Bobby Wellins, Stan Tracey is an outstanding figure in the jazz world. His distinguished career has spanned six decades of flourishing creativity. He has been a highly influential and stimulating musical voice, not only to his peers, but to each successive generation of musicians with whom he has worked. Stans capricious piano playing combines the percussive melody of Thelonious Monk with the robust lyricism of Ellington in a highly idiosyncratic style. A master of harmony, he possesses a potent and compelling improvisers intellect. Through Stan Traceys unflinching commitment and dedication has emerged a very rare artist who has sustained an output of highly exceptional music.
In May 2012 Stan Tracey received the first ever Ivors Jazz Award at the Ivor Novello Awards for his immense contribution to jazz. Completely unmissable for any jazz fan, advance booking is strongly recommended for what promises to be a sensational night.
